Dr. Alexander H. Chan received his DDS with honors from the University of Illinois in 1978. Upon graduation, he was inducted into the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He completed his postgraduate certificate in Advance Prosthodontics at the University of Illinois in 1980. Dr. Chan has been practicing all aspects of restorative, esthetic and implant dentistry, including complex full mouth rehabilitation in Downtown Chicago for 47 years.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Chan has maintained an academic appointment as a clinical associate professor within the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry. He has taught in both the pre-doctoral and the Advanced Prosthodontics program for 39 years. He was the director of the pre-doctoral Fixed Prosthodontics course for 20 years and clinical faculty in the Advanced Prosthodontics program for 33 years. Dr. Chan has received numerous awards from the University of Illinois: six times recipient of the Golden Apple Award from the sophomore DDS classes for his teaching excellence, the University Award for Teaching Excellence (1991) and the E. Lloyd DuBrul Faculty Achievement award from the Dental Alumni Association (2003).
In 2025, Dr. Chan was awarded the Private Practice Prosthodontist Award from the American College of Prosthodontists for outstanding contributions to the specialty of prosthodontic practice, exemplifying collegiality, and community service.
Over the years, Dr. Chan had served in the Teaching Award in Fixed Prosthodontics Committee in the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, and the Education Committee in the Illinois Dental Society. Dr. Chan has lectured and presented numerous cases in prosthodontic treatment planning and procedures in dental study clubs and professional meetings, and he is well-respected and recognized by his peer for his professionalism, guidance and collaboration.
